Project: Visitor Center Competition
Type: Competition Entry
Size: 16,200 sqft

RADAR collaborated with CSAO, Rebeca Mendez Design and others in developing this proposal for the transformation of a historic Wallace Neff stable building at the King Gillette Ranch into a new Visitor Center for the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

Our approach focused on a seamless interplay between indoor and outdoor space, and the use of recreational activities to re-create ourselves. From the proposal: "The Santa Monica Mountains will be inside the stables, and their Visitor Center will be not only inside this building but also outside in the courtyard and dispersed through the landscape beyond."
