The new DTLA Arts District headquarters for Califia Farms is not your typical warehouse conversion. An existing bow-truss building of approximately 7,000 square feet with twenty-five foot ceilings was fit out with a perimeter of generous private offices and an open, overlooking mezzanine, increasing the area to a total of almost 8,500 sqft.

Thirteen enclosed offices feature high ceilings and large expanses of custom wood-framed glass to borrow natural light from the double-height open space at the project’s center. Additional features include an experimental lab kitchen, in which new products will be developed by company CEO Greg Steltenpohl, an expansive employee lunch room/lounge, and two additional conference rooms that can be combined into one using custom-built sliding panels. A future storefront space will host pop-ups, special events and curated retail.

The custom color palette of off-white walls accented by deep, dark browns and warm gray was inspired by the company’s famous almond milks and cold-brew coffees. The final effect resembles a Paris street corner or an outdoor market, the original industrial language polished and softened, re-purposed for this very timely, contemporary company.
